Our Story

Built in 1956, Acadia Gateway Motel & Cottages sits on 66 acres of land. We are the fourth owners of the property. For over 20 years, we have kept the essence of the original property and modernized slightly with the times. When we began, access to outlets was less of a priority-we changed that by making them accessible for all electronics. Alarm clocks used to be a standard in every room, as cell phones became second nature, they were eliminated. Our old brochures advertise color TV, each room now has a flat screen.

The original owner built his house where motel rooms 11, 12, 13 now stand; eventually he expanded into a few cottages and named it Corkum's Motor Court after his last name. Travelers spent nights at his establishment and he would take his guests on a horse-drawn carriage to visit Acadia National Park.
